Markéta Blažková, a recent graduate of the Furniture and Interior Design studio at UMPRUM in Prague, presents a series of original objects crafted from stainless steel and glass. Her work focuses on product design, seeking a balance between tradition and contemporary aesthetics. She emphasizes clean forms, material honesty, and thoughtful detail. One of the featured pieces is an incense holder created by simply bending a single piece of steel, offering a minimalist and raw alternative to traditional designs. It is complemented by a table mirror, the result of experimentation with glass grinding techniques. Instead of conventional methods, the designer uses a grinding wheel like a paintbrush, applying intuitive strokes to the mirror’s surface to capture the ephemeral atmosphere of clouds. The absence of a template and the handcrafted nature of the work make each piece a unique object that balances on the boundary between applied design and fine art. Photography: Ondřej Junek
