Jan Čihák

Jan Čihák is a multidisciplinary artist and designer and a recent graduate of the Glass Studio at the Faculty of Art and Design at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. His practice moves between glass, fashion, site-specific installations and independent objects, with a long-term focus on material experimentation, currently centred primarily on waste glass. In the VDRO series, he combines the archetype of the ordinary bucket with an experimental technique in which waste cobalt glass is melted into porcelain. The cracked, crater-like surfaces emerge through a process in which the glass disrupts the porcelain while simultaneously sealing it again. The resulting objects exist at the boundary between applied and fine art.
