Kateřina Šťastná’s work is shaped by an interest in observing relationships and connections that naturally emerge from physical existence. Just as every step leaves a trace, every breath also transforms part of the oxygen in the surrounding air. Breath is therefore a fundamental source of inspiration in her practice. The stylised, simplified figure that appears in her work reflects an idea of what breath might look like if it were defined by the shape of the human body. Reduced to a head, legs and, in some cases, arms, the figure becomes a reference to the bodily shell that makes it possible to perceive the form of matter that would otherwise remain invisible to the eye.
