Klára Skala Havlová

Klára Skala Havlová is an artist working primarily in applied art with a strong conceptual dimension. Through a range of materials and technologies, she explores both social and personal themes. She currently works mainly with glass, which she studies in the studio led by Rony Plesl and Klára Horáčková at UMPRUM. Direct contact with the material and the process of making itself are central to her practice. In Would You Still Love Me If I Was a Worm?, she draws on the form of a scarab beetle larva, first created using wirework and then translated into a glass flacon. The contrast between the repellent zoomorphic form and the fragile, visually appealing quality of glass explores the boundary between beauty and aversion, asking when and under what circumstances our perception can change.
