Seiji Sakuma

Seiji Sakuma studied at the Václav Hollar Secondary School of Art in Prague and is currently continuing his studies in the Ceramics Studio at UMPRUM. At Czech Design Week, he presents the ceramic sculpture Sentinel, inspired by a Buddhist bell without a clapper and by the motif of samurai armour. The object works with the idea of character as something that, like a bell, only begins to resonate through contact with the surrounding world. Through symbols of discipline, loyalty, courage and faith, Sakuma raises the question of how these values are reflected in the everyday life of contemporary people.
