The fourth edition of the New Generation exhibition is heading to the Museum of Prague at Florenc

Over previous years, New Generation has established itself as one of the main curated projects of Czech Design Week. The showcase does not focus solely on student work or a strictly defined age category, but rather on artists who already demonstrate a distinctive approach, work with materials and themes, and the potential to significantly influence the future direction of contemporary creation. After previous editions held in historic palaces, this year the project enters the environment of the Museum of Prague at Florenc.

The design section of the exhibition presents 17 artists working across product design, glass, furniture, fashion, and experimental creation. Among the exhibitors is, for example, footwear designer and material innovator Oldřich Voyta, who combines traditional craftsmanship with new technologies and material research in his work, or Veronika Šťastná, who, in a bench from the furniture collection Symbio , combines ash wood and stainless steel in an object inspired by bridge construction. 

Also represented are Kateřina Handlová and František Jungvirt, who are among the prominent figures of contemporary Czech glass. The common denominator of the design section is not a single discipline, but an emphasis on a distinctive signature style, work with materials, and the search for new forms of contemporary design.

"We don't want to position New Generation as a showcase of a single discipline, but as a selection of emerging and generationally significant work. For many artists today, design, art, and craft naturally overlap. More important than a professional label is the strength of their own signature style, their work with materials, and their ability to bring a new perspective to contemporary creation," says Lukáš Pipek, curator of the design section of the exhibition.

The art section focuses on five contemporary female artists whose work is united by an interest in the seemingly subtle moments of everyday life, intimacy, memory, space, and human presence itself. Ilona Koroman works with the intimacy of interiors and figurative painting, Lucie Pouchová also draws on her many years of experience as a social worker, capturing everyday life and solitude. Karolína Šulcová uses oil painting to return to memories of home and themes of place, time, and memory. Julie Kopová draws inspiration from landscape, music, and poetry, while Kateřina Šťastná works with the figure, movement, and the human relationship to space, which she transforms through her presence.

“This new generation of artists is both thoughtful and playful. They are not afraid to follow their own path, to experiment, or to pause where others speed up. Each of the five exhibitors speaks their own visual language, but together they form a picture of where contemporary art is heading,” says Anna Pulkertová, curator of the exhibition's art section for Art Part Club.

The art section of the exhibition is created in collaboration between Czech Design Week and Art Part Club, which focuses on bringing contemporary art closer to both beginners and experienced enthusiasts, as well as supporting a new generation of artists.

New Generation will be open from September 10 to 13, 2026, at the Museum of Prague Florenc as part of the 13th annual Czech Design Week. The main festival showcase will take place simultaneously at the Mánes Gallery, with additional programming leading visitors to the House at the Golden Ring, the Rothmayer Villa, and other locations across Prague.
