From September 10 to 13, 2026, Czech Design Week will extend beyond its main showcase at the Mánes Gallery and the New Generation exhibition at the Museum of Prague Florenc. The thirteenth annual festival of contemporary design and art will expand its program to additional locations throughout Prague, leading visitors to the House at the Golden Ring, the Rothmayer Villa, contemporary galleries, design stores, showrooms, and gastronomic venues.
ABC: 70 Years Full of Surprises at the House at the Golden Ring
One of the main satellite exhibitions at this year's Czech Design Week will be the project "ABC: 70 Years Full of Surprises" at the House at the Golden Ring. The exhibition, which commemorates the magazine's history through iconic artifacts and the phenomenon of paper cut-out models, will be divided into two thematic sections.
The first section highlights remarkable objects and stories linked to the history of ABC. These include a time capsule buried by the editorial team at the Prague Zoo in 2001 and unearthed twenty-four years later, the paper robot "Abík" from 1979, the electronic toy "Kočkochod Abina" from 1985, collectible ABC Atlases, flexible vinyl records from 1978, club badges, patents, and vintage merchandise.
The second section focuses on the phenomenon of paper models and cut-outs, which have been associated with ABC since 1962 and became one of its most characteristic features by the late 1960s. The exhibition will showcase, among other things, the legendary "Dirkon" from 1979—a fully functional camera made of paper—as well as vintage model prototypes and the "Urban Conservation Area," one of the most extensive paper models of its time. The magazine's history will also be brought to life through lectures by ABC editor-in-chief Zdeněk Ležák and his deputy, Pavel Dobrovský.
The exhibition is being created in collaboration with the Václav Hollar School of Art and Design. Founded in 1920, this Prague art school today bridges classical fine arts with contemporary graphic design, audiovisual production, illustration, interactive graphics, and digital technologies. At the House at the Golden Ring, Hollar students will present a selection of graphic posters and board games created during their studies.
Contemporary Design at the Rothmayer Villa
This year, the festival will also enter the Rothmayer Villa in Břevnov. Located on U Páté baterie Street near the Central Military Hospital, the villa is one of the most significant works by architect Otto Rothmayer. In the setting of this historic house—whose architecture bears the strong influence of Rothmayer’s mentor, Jože Plečnik, and whose garden was made famous by the photographs of Josef Sudek—the work of designers Tomáš Kučera and Klára Janypková will be presented alongside the Květná 1794 glassworks, whose creative direction the pair has led since 2024. This meeting of contemporary design and the villa's distinctive architecture adds a more intimate exhibition dimension to the festival program, where individual objects enter into a direct dialogue with the original interior.
Artisème, THE DESIGN, and Via Concept Store
Galleries and design shops in the center of Prague are also joining the festival route. Artisème will present the work of glass designer Hana Vopravilová, known for her material experiments. When glassblowing, she works with disposable molds made of corrugated cardboard and paper honeycomb, transferring their structures into glass objects. The program also includes THE DESIGN, where visitors can see the ongoing exhibition "Apollo’s Tropic" by Néphéli Barbas and Martin Herold, as well as the Via Concept Store, where visitors can encounter the work of Sandra Brecka and a selection of her paintings.

Café Slavia and Bar Forbína
Once again, Café Slavia and the adjacent Bar Forbína will be part of the festival route. During Czech Design Week, Slavia will offer a special dessert menu by Jiří Matějka, and guests spending over 1,000 CZK will receive a free festival ticket. As part of the festival echoes, the café's interior will be complemented by vases from glass artist František Jungvirt.
Quadrio Offers Benefits to Festival Visitors
The Quadrio shopping center, this year's Premium Food Partner of Czech Design Week, is also joining the program. From September 10 to 13, it will offer discounts at selected gastronomic establishments to visitors. Upon presenting a valid festival wristband, guests will receive a 20% discount at Fruitisimo, PAUL, Bombay Express, and Oh Deer, while at McDonald’s, they will receive a free apple pie with any menu purchase. The festival wristband, which visitors receive upon entry to Czech Design Week, will thus serve as proof for claiming partner benefits throughout the event.
Other Stops on the Festival Route
The festival route also continues through showrooms, studios, and other partner locations where contemporary design meets the city's daily life. This year's stops include Bang & Olufsen Prague Old Town, Ademi shop & café, František Jungvirt Studio Boutique, Butik PRIM, KLIMCHI Boutique, Xiaomi Store, and, newly, the Etna iGuzzini showroom in Nusle.
Another great tip for a solo architecture trip is the Volman Villa in Čelákovice. Tickets for Czech Design Week are not valid for the Volman Villa, and admission must be purchased separately via the villa's website.
Czech Design Week will take place from Thursday, September 10, to Sunday, September 13, 2026.
